Final illustration!

And there you have it – the final piece! This will be on the front of a (folded) 4.5″ x 5.75″ greeting card and sent to Baltimore Research’s clients for the Fourth of July. The tagline will riff on high gas prices, as you may guess. This one was a lot of fun, and I feel like my digital coloring skills are getting stronger with every project!

Highlights added!

Nearing the finish line now! I just have a few more shadows and highlights to add or alter before sending this off. The chrome on the car was the biggest challenge. My painting experience has sure come in handy when working on this stuff! I’ve played with a different method of adding highlights and shadows in Photoshop this time around, too. Fun stuff…

Colors!

Here’s the next step on my newest Baltimore Hon greeting card illustration for Baltimore Research. These are just basic colors…next I will go in and work on light and shadow…that’s the fun part! I like to start off with a sort of small palette and then build up from there so that the final result is pretty unified.

I’m pretty happy with this one so far!! Soon I’ll have to post the older ones…and a bunch of other stuff so that I can get the portfolio portion of this site moving.

Inks of Hon illustration

Here’s the next step toward the finished Fourth of July illustration!

I neglected to mention before that the client loves the Baltimore Hon theme. This is the sixth in a series of greeting card illustrations in this theme.

For those not in the know: Baltimore Hons are legendary creatures who sport beehive hairdos, cat-eye glasses and bright, tacky clothing, and will call anyone and everyone “Hon” (hence the name.) If you still don’t know what I’m talking about…well…check out this site, and good luck to you!

Screengrab of next Hon illustration

Here’s my progress on my current project, a Fourth of July greeting card illustration for Baltimore Research. It’s a timely concept! I had fun looking up old cars for this…it’s not really any one model or another, I’ll admit. I’ll post the finished piece later!

I’m using Alias Sketchbook Pro for the drawing and inking, by the way…I’ll color it in Photoshop.
